IBM Personal Computer FORTRAN Compiler (6024012)

Item number: 6024012

Announcement date: 1981-12-01
Availability date: 1982-03
Announcement letter: 281-127 THE IBM PERSONAL COMPUTER IS ENHANCED

From the announcement:

Programs may be written in a version of FORTRAN-77 and then
compiled to native object code. The compiler includes the standard
ANSI X3.9-1978 (subset level) and features from X3.9-1978 (full
level).
The Macro Assembler and the FORTRAN compiler operate under
the control of the IBM Personal Computer Disk Operating System
(DOS). They require input to be a source file created using a text
editor such as the EDLIN utility on the DOS Diskette. The output is
a relocatable program which must be converted to one which is ready
for loading and execution using a program such as the Linker on the
DOS Diskette.

The FORTRAN Compiler operates with the IBM Personal Computer
Disk Operating System (DOS). Programs may be written in a version
of FORTRAN-77. These programs are then compiled to native object
code for execution on the IBM Personal Computer.
       Highlights
- Standard ANSI X3.9-1978 (subset level)
- Features from ANSI X3.9-1978 (full level)
- Enhancements to ease conversion of FORTRAN-66 programs
- Object modules may be combined with subroutines written in IBM
Personal Computer Pascal or Macro Assembler
- Two-pass compilations
- Separate compilation of large program segments
- Compiler metacommands
- Edit control
Installation/operation: Each FORTRAN program must be created
as a source (text) file using a text editor such as the EDLIN
utility program that is packaged with the IBM Personal Computer DOS
on the DOS Diskette. The compiler is then used to compile the
program, producing a machine language object file in relocatable
format. Finally, the Linker program is used to convert the
relocatable program into one that is ready for loading and
execution.
Packaging: The FORTRAN compiler is resident on three
diskettes. They are packaged with the IBM Personal Computer FORTRAN
Reference Manual.
Publications: IBM Personal Computer FORTRAN Reference
Manual. Since the Disk Operating System (DOS) is used during the
program entry, compilation, linking, and execution phases, the DOS
Reference Manual is required.
Prerequisites: A minimum 128KB, two diskette drive system is
required to produce the final load module, although the module
itself may be executable on a smaller system. The IBM Personal
Computer Diskette Software (DOS Diskette) is need to provide the
necessary I/O routines, text editor (EDLIN), and Linker programs.
Customer responsibilities: The customer is responsible for
producing backup copies of the original compiler diskettes. Since
the reference manual does not provide a tutorial on the language,
the customer should have some prior knowledge of FORTRAN.
